The Benefits & Options of HighFlow Cartridges

By
1 Minute Read

In the water treatment and industrial sectors, depth or pleated depth filters are the preferred choice for guard and particulate removal in processes like boiler feed, reverse osmosis (RO) protection, and municipal applications. However, when flow rates exceed 50 m³/hr, using many 2½” diameter cartridges becomes impractical. This challenge led to the introduction of the High Flow format.

The High Flow Advantage

IMG_9143Shifting from 2½” to 6” diameter cartridges, which have 5 to 8 times more surface area, revolutionized the industry. Additionally, developing 60” long cartridges, rather than the standard 40”, further increased surface area by 50%. These advancements, combined with housings available in both vertical and horizontal orientations, have made the installation of High Flow cartridges significantly easier, establishing them as the dominant format for large flow installations.

The benefits of High Flow cartridges include:

  • Reduced Footprint: Lowering the initial capital cost of the cartridge filter housing.
  • Simple Cartridge Change-Out: Significantly reducing and saving users' time.
  • Reduced Disposal Costs: Due to fewer cartridges being used.
  • Flexible Orientation: Allows maximum use of available space.
  • Optimal Capital & Operating Costs: Especially at higher flow rates (greater than 30 m³/hr).

In a liquid particulate filter the same process is happening, but the coalesced liquid ends up in the centre of the cartridge and is re-entrained into the gas and then passed onto the final filter leading to major blinding issues.

Cartridge Options

Since their initial introduction, High Flow cartridges have been further developed to suit a range of applications. The available product formats include:

  1. All Polypropylene Construction: The standard product suitable for continuous operation up to 80°C.
  2. Polypropylene Construction with Stainless Steel Outer Cage: Designed for continuous operation above 80°C, up to 120°C.
  3. All 316 Stainless Steel Construction: Suitable for continuous operation up to 300°

High Flow filter cartridges have transformed the landscape of industrial and water treatment filtration by providing efficient, cost-effective, and space-saving solutions. As the demand for higher flow rates continues to grow, the flexibility and advanced design of High Flow cartridges ensure they remain the optimal choice for large-scale filtration needs.
